Childhood Tumour Trust is a small charity dedicated to supporting children, young people and their families with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a genetic condition that affects around 1 in 2,500. They provide camps and days out so that families and children can meet others in a similar situation, as well as funding research. Childhood Tumour Trust is also campaigning to get better recognition of Cafe Au Lait marks and more understanding of their significance, with the Count the Cal Campaign. 6 or more Cals is a strong indicator of having neurofibromatosis, yet all too often they are being dismissed as ‘simply birthmarks’.
